From the Bandersnatch to the Molded, these scary-looking monsters in Resident Evil don’t really scare you.
Resident Evil is one of the most famous survival horror franchises. For decades, it has scared players with its scary monsters and heart-pounding situations. From Nemesis’s relentless chase to the Regenerators’ creepy presence, the series is known for its ability to make people scared.
But not every monster in the Resident Evil world is scary enough to make us feel scared. In fact, some creatures have gotten a bad name for being the least scary in the history of the series. These monsters are an interesting look at the less scary side of Resident Evil’s creature design that was not on purpose. Get ready to laugh and take a break from all the scary stuff!
Bandersnatch – Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000)
In the scary world of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, a strange creature called the Bandersnatch shows up and acts in a very strange way. It stands out because it has one big arm that is horribly long and looks out of place. It also has a face that only a mother could love.
The Bandersnatch doesn’t do enough to make people scared. Instead, it has a funny look that might make you wonder if you’ve found a rejected figure from a children’s show instead of a scary monster. Maybe the Bandersnatch would have done better in slapstick humor, where its strange qualities would have been praised instead of feared.
Drain Deimos – Resident Evil 3 (1999)
In Resident Evil 3, we meet the strange Drain Deimos, a group of creatures that make an unusual impact. As they get closer, these beings do a strange jiggling dance, as if they are trying to show off their weird dance moves.
The fact that they look like a random mix of a hunter, a spider, and a licker makes it even harder to take them seriously. These Drain Deimos are like the fake action figures you can buy at discount shops. They try hard to look like the real thing, but they fail in every way. When you see these strange creatures, it’s hard not to smile or laugh, since they don’t scare you and instead make you laugh with their unintentionally funny actions.
El Gigante – Resident Evil 4 (2005)
In the world of Resident Evil 4, players meet El Gigante, a huge monster with many faces. Even though it is huge, this huge monster doesn’t really scare people. Its design is sadly boring and lacks any features that make it stand out.
It seems like the creators were inspired by the famous cave trolls in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and made a cheap copy of them. El Gigante is big, but it can’t compare to Middle-earth in terms of creativity and depth. When it comes to scary and memorable monsters, this huge creature doesn’t cut it. Instead, it leaves us wanting more creative and unique enemies in the Resident Evil world.
Albinoid – Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000)
Resident Evil: Code Name: The Albinoids are something that Veronica tells the players about. However, they are not very scary. Instead of making people scared, these creatures make them wonder why and how they were made.
They look more like a failed attempt at a luxury adult toy than a dangerous creature because they are smooth and sexually suggestive. When their appearance makes people more likely to raise their eyebrows than scream in fear, it’s hard to take them seriously as dangerous enemies. Maybe the Albinoids would have fit better in a different kind of game, one with a different target group and tone.
Molded – Resident Evil 7 (2017)
In Resident Evil 7, the Molded were added, but they didn’t make people feel as scared and horrified as typical zombies. You could say that these creatures are a poor copy of their undead peers. The Molded don’t look as scary as zombies do because they aren’t rotting and ugly like zombies are. Instead, they look like dead husks that don’t have the same effect.
Their design doesn’t have any of the visceral and unsettling traits that make Resident Evil scary. In a game known for its scary monsters, the Molded aren’t scary enough to stick out, and they end up being overshadowed by more memorable and scary enemies.
Glimmer – Resident Evil: Dead Aim (2003)
The Glimmers show up in Resident Evil: Dead Aim, a game that people often forget about. These creatures look like frogs with cranberries in their heads. They give off an oddly funny vibe that makes them more funny than scary.
Their appearance makes them look more funny than scary, which makes it hard to take them seriously as dangerous enemies. Instead of making you feel like bad things are about to happen, the Glimmers are more likely to make you want a sweet snack. In the big picture of Resident Evil’s scary monsters, the Glimmers don’t stand out. Instead, they blend into the group of dull enemies.
Mimicry Marcus – Resident Evil 0 (2002)
The copying in Resident Evil 0 In theory, Marcus is a good idea: a group of leeches that looks like people should be scary. But the way these things are put together is disappointing. Instead of making people afraid, they just become annoying and a pain to deal with.
They look a lot like the Molded from Slope Game, but they seem even less dangerous. Unfortunately, Mimicry Marcus doesn’t make the cut when it comes to being really scary. Their lackluster appearance shows that not every idea can be turned into a scary character in Resident Evil’s huge world.
Infected Moth – Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000)
In Resident Evil: Code Veronica, the Infected Moths are more of a nuisance than a scary threat. This makes them the most annoying animals in the whole series. With their wings, these big bugs constantly bug and drug players, but they don’t scare them as much as they test their patience. Moths aren’t scary on their own, and these blown-up forms don’t change that impression.
Instead of scaring people, they make a pest of themselves by laying eggs all the time and spreading poisons. It’s hard to feel scared when all you want to do is find a big fly swatter to get rid of the annoying flies.
Under Taker – Resident Evil Survivor (2000)
In the original Resident Evil sequel, Resident Evil Survivor, the Under Takers make a disappointing first appearance that leaves a lot to be desired in terms of scariness. These creatures don’t look scary enough because their limbs are all different sizes and look like a child’s picture come to life.
Armed with guns, they seem out of place in a series known for its scary monsters and horrifying creatures from other worlds. It’s almost like they went to the wrong set and ended up in a Resident Evil game by accident. The Under Takers don’t have anything that makes them stand out, and they’re not nearly as scary as the creatures that have made the series so memorable.
Hunter Type “γ” – Resident Evil 3 (1999)
In Resident Evil 3, fans meet the Hunter Type “,” which stands out as the least scary monster in the history of the series. With its almost-cute wide-eyed goofiness and frog-like face, this creature is hard to take seriously as a danger. When it shows up, it doesn’t make players feel scared. Instead, it accidentally takes away from the game’s scary atmosphere.
Resident Evil tries to make you scared, but its cute but useless design takes away from that. The Hunter Type “” has the unfortunate distinction of being the least scary monster in the history of RE. Players are more likely to laugh at it than run away in fear.
